Materials and tools needed Before you begin, prepare the following items:
- A set of Torx/Allen keys suitable for your model
- A socket suitable for the central nut of the steering wheel
- A flathead and Phillips screwdriver
- A steering wheel puller (depending on the model)
- Protective gloves
- Masking tape (to mark the alignment)
Step 1: Secure the vehicle
Park your car on a flat, stable surface. Turn off the ignition and remove the key.
Disconnect the battery (negative terminal) to prevent accidental airbag deployment.
Step 2: Remove the airbag
Identify the screws on the back of the steering wheel (often Torx).
Gently unscrew them.
Carefully pull the airbag towards you.
Unplug the electrical connectors (airbag and controls).
Place the airbag on a stable surface, convex side facing up.
Step 3: Remove the steering wheel
Mark the steering wheel's position with masking tape to ensure proper alignment during reassembly.
Unscrew the central nut (usually very tight).
Use your hands or a puller if the steering wheel is difficult to remove.
Gently remove the steering wheel, being careful not to pull on the cables.
Step 4: Install the new steering wheel
Align the new steering wheel with the mark made previously.
Thread the cables (airbag, multifunction) through the designated slots.
Firmly screw on the central nut.
Reconnect the connectors for the new airbag and controls.
Replace the airbag and screw it back in from the rear.
Step 5: Final Checks
Reconnect the battery.
Turn the ignition on and check:
Steering wheel centering
Horn operation
Multifunction buttons
No airbag warning light illuminated
In case of anomaly, disconnect the battery again and recheck the connections.
