Complete Guide: How to Change and Install Your Custom Steering Wheel

Whether you are installing a sport steering wheel, or a custom Alcantara-style, carbon or leather model, we recommend following the installation steps suited to your vehicle and the selected configuration.

Equipment and tools needed

Before you start, prepare the following items:

A set of Torx / Allen keys suited to your model

A socket suited to the central nut of the steering wheel

A flathead and Phillips screwdriver

A steering wheel puller (depending on the model)

Protective gloves

Masking tape (to mark the alignment)

Step 1: Secure the vehicle

Park your car on a flat, stable surface. Turn off the ignition and remove the key.
Disconnect the battery (negative terminal) to prevent any accidental airbag deployment.

Step 2: Remove the airbag

Locate the screws at the back of the steering wheel (often Torx).
Unscrew them carefully.
Gently pull the airbag toward you.
Disconnect the electrical connectors (airbag and controls).

Place the airbag on a stable surface, domed side facing up.

Step 3: Remove the steering wheel

Mark the position of the steering wheel with masking tape to ensure a properly aligned reinstallation.
Unscrew the central nut (usually tightened hard).
Use your hands or a puller if the steering wheel is hard to remove.
Remove the steering wheel gently, taking care not to pull on the cables.

Step 4: Install the new steering wheel

Align the new steering wheel with the mark made earlier.
Route the cables (airbag, multifunction) through the designated slots.
Screw the central nut back on firmly.
Reconnect the connectors of the new airbag and the controls.
Put the airbag back in place and screw it in at the back.

Step 5: Final checks

Reconnect the battery.
Turn on the ignition and check:
That the steering wheel is properly centered
That the horn works
That the multifunction buttons work
That no airbag warning light is on

In case of any anomaly, disconnect the battery again and recheck the connections.

Additional tips

Always work with gloves to protect the leather, Alcantara or carbon.

For a perfect result, consider cleaning or applying a protective treatment to the steering wheel after installation.
